It was about this time last year that I posted my last journal. I honestly didn't mean to neglect my deviantART page (and social life), but I've been a bit busy. I know that's a lame excuse, but hear me out.
It all started... well, before school started last year. I was thinking about taking a step into the dating world. I had recently discovered Craigslist and had been looking at the personal ads for my area. (Yes, I was looking at personals.)
Anyway, I replied to an ad on August 16th from a 22-year-old young man who was a computer geek and a video game nerd.
It seemed promising to me, so I emailed him. He added me on MySpace and we talked on messenger a couple times. Then, on August 21st, I moved into my dorm room. I met Tom on August 28th at the City Market downtown. He was working at one of the tables, selling his brother's artwork. We talked for couple hours, and I offered to let him spend the night in my dorm so we could hang out more. After he was done working the market, I met him again and walked him to my dorm. We watched
Anchorman. And, basically, that is how I met the love of my life.
Now, I'm not saying that my having a boyfriend is what prevented me from drawing/keeping up with my dA page. C'mon, you didn't even let me finish my story. A lot of stuff happened.
Tom had been living with his brother and sister-in-law because he had just moved here from Chicago. He worked with his brother in the art studio and, of course, worked the market for him. I went over to their house and met them. Tom told his sis-in-law that I babysit, so she asked me to babysit her three kids whenever I had free time from school. So, I ended up going there frequently. It was fun.
Now, here comes the more interesting part. On our two month anniversary, Tom gave me a necklace he had carved from a branch from a palmetto tree (that's what his brother uses for his art). We then went down to the beach that night (which was, literally, a five-minute walk), and Tom told me he had something to tell me, but he was afraid of how I'd react. He told me that he was married. He moved to the South because his wife cheated on him, and they were separated and working on getting a divorce. He apologized profusely for keeping it from me and told me he loved me and didn't know how he'd live without me. It was a little overwhelming, but that's when I realized that I loved Tom.
I went to Chicago with Tom for Christmas. We had been dating for about three and a half months. And my mom bought us the plane tickets. That was surprisingly awesome.
Basically, his entire family loved me. I think a lot of it was comparison: they thought I was a million times better than his soon-to-be-ex. His mom even mentioned something about grandchildren.
After the trip, I started school again. Tom lived with my sister and brother-in-law for a half a month until he moved into his new apartment downtown. We got to witness the deterioration of my sister's marriage. She and her husband are now separated and going to get a divorce.
I essentially moved in with Tom, even though I still technically lived in the dorms. Then, for the summer, I've been living with Tom's brother and sister-in-law as a nanny (the kids love me). But I'm officially living with Tom this school year. I'm not hiding it from my parents anymore. Pretty soon, we're going to file Tom's divorce papers. We're going to have to take another trip to Chicago for that.
So, that's been my life so far. There's some other interesting things, like my sister dating our roommate and other drama that usually surrounds a divorce. But I don't need to ramble anymore. I'll post more artworks eventually. See you around!
